Great White Elephant
03:28
|
|||
Jack and Jill went up the hill and bought the farm
What a thrill to find such treasures in the barn
Enough to pay the rent and for the operation, too
She may be breaking down, but look up, oh what a view
Things have gotten better and they're getting better still
Great white elephant on the hill
There's been so many changes, so many comin still
Great white elephant on the hill
Jack be nimble, Jill was quick, she got her way
"Idle hands are the Devil's work," they always say
The pieces fall in place, now could you place it on my bill?
We will build this house, this home upon the hill
Things have gotten better and they're getting better still
Great white elephant on the hill
There's been so many changes, so many comin still
Great white elephant on the hill

Euphoria
02:24
|
|||
Can you see me
Dancing in the light?
Ah, you fill my soul
With delight
Well, I can't believe that I do
What I do
To you, and you do that
To me too
All I know is
You've got me feeling alright
Feeling alright
It's a miracle
The way you see me through
It's a fairytale
Dream come true
Well, I can't believe that you see
What you see
In me! It scares me
In my sleep
I finally found
My fantasy in you
Fancy you
Euphoria! Euphoria!
Can you see me
Dancing in the light?
Ah, you fill my soul
With delight
Well, I can't believe that I do
What I do
To you, and you do that
To me too
All I know is
You've got me feeling alright.
Euphoria! Euphoria!

Restless Worry
04:41
|
|||
Take a moment
Step back
And look at yourself
Restless worry,
Put your troubles
On the shelf
Block it out of your mind
Rip it out of your soul
Restless worry
Don't let it
Take control
Maybe there's no garden
Growing at your feet
And maybe all the passion
Gets lost within the heat
And you may not live forever
You might just fade away
But you're looking at your future
Through the eyes of yesterday
Step back,
Take a look at yourself
Take your troubles
Put them on the shelf
Block it from your mind,
Cast it out of your soul
Don't let it take control
Well you just can't find the answers
Through prophecies untold
And you're searching for your wisdom
Down a dark and dusty road
So you learn to laugh at failure
You learn to hide the pain
And you make those quick decisions
Just to smell the sweet refrain
Step back,
Take a look at yourself
Take your troubles
Put them on the shelf
Block it from your mind,
Rip it out of your soul
Don't let it take control
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
Maybe there's no garden
Growing at your feet
And maybe all the passion
Gets lost within the heat
And you may not live forever
You might just fade away
But you're looking at your future
Through the eyes of yesterday
Step back,
Take a look at yourself
Take your troubles
Put them on the shelf
Block it from your mind,
Rip it out of your soul
Don't let it take control

The Door Is Always Open
02:34
|
|||
There he is, at her door
Tellin' her he needs a friend
He's always coming back for more
'Cause he knows the door's always open
He can call her late at night
"Let's make love in the full moon light"
"Ooh, come on over, it's alright
You know the door's always open"
Who knows why the door's always open?
She can't say no to that man
Who knows why the door's always open?
He loves her like nobody can
He loves her like nobody can
He can call her late at night
"Let's make love in the full moon light"
"Ooh, come on over, it's alright
You know the door's always open"
Who knows why the door's always open?
She can't say no to that man
Who knows why the door's always open?
He loves her like nobody can
He loves her like nobody can

ROB: And so, you mentioned that Renee wrote that song. Is it, pretty much split up between you or do you write a lot together, or, how does that work for you guys?
TIM: Well, a lot of the songs that I had written, ah, before I had met Renee, and, the one she had written by herself before us, and since we got together we pretty much work together on most all of our songs.
RENEE: Tim's the one that obsesses, and wakes me up at 3 AM and, and obsesses about them and it's really, it's a real birthing process when Tim's having a song. But, I get a word in edgewise, now and then...
TIM: ...That's a good description of it...
ROB: ...And it's... and at 3 AM, naturally, you're in best voice, too, right? When you're just waking up.
RENEE: "No, honey, really, try this! I saw it in a dream!" You know, and, once there's a song coming, it's like I'm the deer caught in the headlights and I just add whatever I can. That's pretty much how they get written around our household.
ROB: All right.
TIM: And, delivering, this song...
ROB: Music To Pledge By!

Baby G
04:01
|
|||
Here we are
Once again
Finding ourselves
Our strengths, and our friends
And together
We'll grow stronger
With every passing day
And forever
If not longer
I want you to stay
With me
You're my forever, my together
My whatever I may need
You're in every waking thought
I can see
My forever, my together,
My whatever I may need
You've answered every prayer
Baby G
Family name
I hope I hear him say
With love in his heart
And pride in his voice
"That's my daddy's name"
And together
We'll grow stronger
With every passing day
And forever
If not longer
I want us to stay
Family
You're my forever, my together
My whatever I may need
You're in every waking thought
I can see
My forever, my together,
My whatever I may need
You've answered every prayer
Baby G
My forever, my together
I want you to stay
(With me)
My forever, my together
I want us to stay
(Family)
My forever, my together
I want you to stay
With me

I can't remember
Where I left my hat and coat
I'm trying to figure out
Why the fuse would overload
I try to remember
Then I try so hard to forget
Cause the things that I remember
I ain't quite figured out yet
There's a plane down on the highway
There's a plane down on the highway
There's a plane down on the highway
Yeah, well, that must be my ride
I tried to warn her
There she was with her Coke and fries
But before I knew it
There it was, before my eyes
I tried to stop her
I said, "Look up, don't look down!"
Then she had her last meal
Behind the wheel
As the landing gear came down
There's a plane down on the highway
There's a plane down on the highway
There's a plane down on the highway
Yeah, well, that must be my ride
There's a plane down on the highway
There's a plane down on the highway
There's a plane down on the highway
Yeah, well, that must be my ride
There's a plane down on the highway
There's a plane down on the highway
There's a plane down on the highway
Yeah, well, that must be my ride

Reckless Abandon
04:27
|
|||
I saw you
And from that moment on it was true love
In a bar room
On a stool with my own lonely eyes
I stepped up
And I ordered a shot of tequila
Said "Tell me your story
Hold the lemon, the salt, and the lies"
'Cause I know who you are
You're my reckless abandon
And I know who you are
You're my one dream come true
And I know who you are
You're my final addiction
With reckless abandon
I'd go through Hell and high water for you
You said you
Were never the quiet or shy one
You said you
Weren't into those romancin' games
You said you
Would love to dance for the evening
A shot of tequila
Hold the lemon, the salt, and the names
'Cause I know who you are
You're my reckless abandon
And I know who you are
You're my one dream come true
And I know who you are
You're my final addiction
With reckless abandon
I'd go through Hell and high water for you
You've been to Hell and then
Back again
And I respect you for that
And I went and I searched
To the ends of the earth
But I guess
You've just made it back
Just when
I went over the edge, well, I saw you
Dressed in leather
Singin' "Friends In Low Places" with Garth
Well I stepped up
And I said, "Can I buy you another
Shot of tequila?
Hold the lemon, the salt, and my heart."
Well I know who you are
You're my reckless abandon
And I know who you are
You're my one dream come true
And I know who you are
You're my final addiction
With reckless abandon
I'd go through Hell and high water for you
Reckless abandon
I'd go through Hell and high water
For you

Mid Mornin' Caller
02:43
|
|||
I wake up in the mornin
With you runnin through my head
Just enough to make me smile
And drag me out of bed
I pull myself together
I shake off my last night's stone
I grab my guitar and I kick myself back
And I wait for the telephone
You're my
Mid mornin' caller
You're my
Love line installer
You're the answer to the question
That's been runnin through my brain
You're my
Mid mornin' caller
My catch-me-when-I-faller
Never would I do
Anything to
Drive you insane
Every day is sunshine
When I get to hear from you
He picks me up and makes me smile
I've been so damn blue
'Cause every day's the same routine
I sing the same old song
But I know I'm gonna hear from you
And I know it won't be long
You're my
Mid mornin' caller
You're my
Love line installer
You're the answer to the question
That's been runnin through my brain
You're my
Mid mornin' caller
My catch-me-when-I-faller
Never would I do
Anything to
Drive you insane
I wake up in the mornin
With you layin by my side
It gives me strength, security,
And a feelin' of self-pride
Just tto know you're with me, baby,
Just to know you're mine,
Makes me feel like I can see
In a world to which I'm blind
You're my
Mid mornin' caller
You're my
Love line installer
You're the answer to the question
That's been runnin through my brain
You're my
Mid mornin' caller
My catch-me-when-I-faller
Never would I do
Anything to
Drive you insane

Fenton Blues
03:41
|
|||
When I looked into your eyes
I swear that I saw love there
But still your heart stayed cold as it could be
And I thought for a moment
That I could touch you
Keep you close and warm and next to me
But it seems like the only time I ever see you
Is when you've been lonely for a while
And even though I know
That I can't have you when I want you, baby
It makes me feel good to see you smile
As I lay sleeping in your arms
I dreamed that I belonged there
While somehow I still knew I had to wait
And so I tried
To stay asleep forever
And dream you gave the love I couldn't take
'Cause it seems like the only time I ever see you
Is when you've been lonely for a while
And even though I know
That I can't have you when I want you, baby
It makes me feel good to see you smile
When we said goodbye today
I trembled as you held me
Could you tell it wasn't from the cold?
You could never know
How hard it was to leave you
And walk away from the man I longed to hold
But it seems like the only time I ever see you
Is when you've been lonely for a while, yeah
And even though I know
That I can't have you when I want you, baby
It makes me feel good to see you smile
Oooh, smile for me, baby

Spit Into The Wind
03:31
|
|||
Baby, we had a good time
Baby, we had a good time
You gave me a little sunshine
I never wanted it
I never wanted it to end
You always drank of my wine
You always fell for my lines
I thought we had it all
I thought we had it all, and then
You say
"I love you like a brother
I love you like a friend
I loved you like a lover once
But I
I never will again"
Spit into the wind
Happened to me once before
I knocked upon a friendly door
I only wanted to
I only wanted to come in
Heaven knows what lies in store
They always want a little bit more
And then they take it all
And then they take it all for grins
They say
"I love you like a brother
I love you like a friend
I loved you like a lover once
But I
I never will again"
Spit into the wind
They say
I love you like a brother
I love you like a friend
I loved you like a lover once
But I
I never will again
Spit into the wind

Screamin Across The Sky
04:03
|
|||
Can you hear it
By and by?
Life is screaming
Across the sky
Life goes quickly
It goes so fast
The life we're living
Is now the past
And the wheels of fortune
They never have fallen on me
Well, I keep on fighting
And maybe someday I'll be free
Screaming across the sky
Can you feel it
In the air?
Sweet sensations
In despair
Lay me slowly
Down to die
Weeping willows
And lullabies
And the wheels of fortune
They never have fallen on me
I just keep on fighting
And maybe someday I'll be free
Screaming across the sky
And the friends and the lovers
The merchants and the lovers
And the preacher lying there in the street
They're gonna come out of their coffins
Look up to the heavens
And see
Me screaming across the sky
Can you see in-
Side my head?
Am I living
Or am I dead?
Mornings after
Are sweet and dry
Light the candles
Burn the sky
And the wheels of fortune
They never have fallen on me
I just keep on fighting
And maybe someday I'll be free
To be screaming across the sky

ROB: Alright, one more time, before we go any farther, be sure to tell everybody where you're gonna be playing so they can get out and see you real soon.
RENEE: April 12th, at Barnes and Noble, in Crestwood up on Watson, and June 21st, at Borders in Creve Coeur, eight to ten thirty.
TIM: And anywhere else in between there that anybody calls, and, ah, lets us know.
ROB: Oh, you, you just might be seen at an open mic night anytime between now and then.
RENEE: Oh, maybe more than one, maybe more than one. We could show up anywhere, anytime.
ROB: Alright!

Broken Toys
03:13
|
|||
Broken dreams,
Broken toys,
Broke a string,
Lost my voice
Lost in the forest
Amidst the trees
Alone in the darkness
A cold winter's breeze
Look up to the sky
But I can't see a thing
Am I losing my mind
Am I blind or insane?
And I can't seem to find my way home
And I can't seem to find my way home
And I can't seem to find my way home
I can't seem to find my way
Lost at the circus
Afraid for my life
The man with the blindfold
Is throwing his knife
I'm up on the tightrope
With no net below
I'm stuck in the middle
Which way should I go?
And I can't seem to find my way home
I can't seem to find my way home
I can't seem to find my way home
I can't seem to find my way
I get into my box
It's the only way out
And I listen to reason
But I still have my doubt
And I've broken the toys
That I can't live without
And I can't seem to find my way home
And I can't seem to find my way home
I can't seem to find my way home
I can't seem to find my way home
Can't seem to find my way

The Drunk Driving Song
03:46
|
|||
I was tremblin' and bothered
I had nowhere to go
I found myself with a bottle
In a place nobody should go
And I said to myself
"This can't be happening to me!
I wanna go home
I wanna go home"
I stumbled and staggered
Out the door and into the cold
I found myself by the roadside
Walkin a line and touchin my nose
And I said to myself
"This can't be happening to me...
No, no, no!
I wanna go home
I wanna go home"
"Well, a battle of Jack Black,
Maybe a six-pack, but
That's all that I had
Hey... where- where'd my car go?
WHO ARE YOU GESTAPO?
TAKE YOUR HANDS OFF ME, MAN
TAKE YOUR HA- YOUR
You're makin' me mad,
You're makin' me mad"
I woke up in the slammer
A bump on my head, face down on the floor
I still try to remember
What it was they brought me here for
And I said to myself,
"This can't be happening to me
No, no, no!
I wanna go home
I wanna go home"

Shoelaces (Interview)

STEVE: ...and we're gonna get even funnier if you don't call... 664...
ROB: And believe me, it's not, it's not a pretty sight getting funny with Steve. It's, ah...
STEVE: Well, you know, it's late at night, you know, I'm a bit crochety, and
RENEE: I would like to mention that, there's some of these shoelaces here in the studio, and they are quite attractive. And these people are really missing out if they don't get their KDHX shoelaces.
ROB: That's right.
RENEE: They're purple. They're beautiful.
ROB: And you can show everybody who... looks at your feet, where your ears are.
TIM: What a concept!
STEVE: And you can get them only here, but NOT unless you call...
ROB: Is not available in any stores. Just available by calling 664-3688 and pledging... your money and your support for KDHX, Metro Live, and, in this case, tonight, White Elephant.
TIM: Yay!
ROB: And before we get any farther, I just wanna tell you how much I appreciate you guys coming in, Tim and Renee, coming in and serenading us, and...
TIM: Well, you're more than welcome, it's been a pleasure, it's been great, and we appreciate the opportunity, to get to share our music with a hundred-mile radius. And during the exciting pledge drive!
RENEE: Yeah, it's just been a veritable hive of activity around here! The phones could ring a little more, though...
TIM: I hear one ringing now!
ROB: There's... we got a phone ringing now! Alright, thanks to Paul Stark who was, from Ska's The Limit, who took the last pledge. That was nice, he just stopped by, and realized that we were kind of busy, but...
TIM: That'll work!
ROB: And, Ska's The Limit did really well Friday, and congratulations to them!

Where did you come from?
Where did you hide?
Keeping your sorrows
Buried deep inside
Can you imagine?
Can you not see
Visions of heaven
Dancing before me?
The pain is gone
I know I can feel it now
As the sun
Shines through your eyes
And every day
The feeling of something new
If I choose to sleep alone
Will I sleep through paradise?
Where did you come from?
Where have you been?
Lost in the darkness
Of your world again
Come hear the laughter
Pain goes away
Come feel the gentleness
Of yesterday
The pain is gone
You know I can see it now
As the sun
Shines through your eyes
And every day
The feeling of something new
If I choose to sleep alone
Will I sleep through paradise?

Sign Off (Interview)

ROB: Alright, thanks once again to White Elephant. Tim and Renee who were kind enough to donate their time for the last two hours. You guys are gonna be playing at Borders, um...
ROB AND RENEE: June 21st and April 12th...
RENEE: At Barnes and Noble in Crestwood, and then watch for us this summer. Saint Louis County Parks has a concert series...
TIM: ...The Vets Jam...
RENEE: We'll be doing a concert, we'll be doing the Vets Jam. Great, great, free concert, every year in Jefferson Barracks. It benefits veterans and they do a great job, and there's usually three days of music, and it's free to all! It's a really cool concert!
ROB: Alright...
STEVE: And watch for...
ROB: And Steve, where can you see this?
STEVE: And watch for them on the Saint Louis Open Mic TV show, every Saturday, eight o'clock, we just taped, video taped the past two hours and it'll be, I usually do, you know, a cut here and there, so you'll probably be on, maybe for the rest of the summer.
ROB: Be scattered about through it!
TIM: On cable, on the air, what more could we ask for? Thank you all for having us here.
STEVE: And it couldn't have been done without past people pledging, for the, almost ten years that we've been on, on the air here on KDHX. And for the next ten years, all you guys who haven't called yet, well, okay, this, five-minute guilt trip here, ah, two-minute guilt-trip, or whatever for, before the end of the show.
ROB: You got three minutes to call with that 88 dollar pledge to put us over the top, and boy would that make us look good!
STEVE: Mm, and sound good. It's easier to look good on the radio, but sounding good is rough.
ROB: That's right, radio's the only place I'll ever look good myself, and I'm sure Steve, you're the same way...
STEVE: I ain't got too many complaints.
ROB: Okay. We need your support-
STEVE: 664-3688... 664...
ROB: We need your support.
STEVE: There's somebody.
ROB: And there's the phone now, as Steve runs from the room to go fill out the slip. We need your support to help keep things on the air- Oh yeah, keep playing the guitar! We're gonna have- nice...
TIM: We'll put a little background for you.
ROB: Have some background music going on as we go out here. Course, the Wayback Machine is coming up next, and, you know, I can understand if you couldn't get around to pledging during my show. Doesn't mean I'm going to forgive you, but I can understand. But be sure to pledge sometime during the pledge drive, because, heck, it's not an ego trip here, it's a collective effort. And the station needs it. And, what more can I say? If you pledge in the next two minutes, for 88 dollars, you get one of three fine locally-produced CDs. One Fell Swoop, The Good-For-Nothing Band, or Cimeron. Or if you pledge 50 dollars, you can get... a pair of tickets for the Notes From Home series at the Sheldon, for 50 dollars, to see Waterloo, and Nadine. So, the offer is still good but it's only good for another two minutes. Copper and James are gonna be coming up next. 664-3688 is the number to call, and, yet, Steve is on the phone right now! So, I like to see that. So who knows? Maybe we're over our goal. I don't know. I'm just buzzing with anticipation. Just dying to find out. Well, I guess there's not a whole lot left to say, except, except thank you all for listening. 664-3688. Pledge now, pledge often, pledge sometime in the next week and a half. Um, Wayback Machine is next, and, oh, keep playing so that there's not dead air while I reach for the cart I didn't pull out earlier!
TIM: I was never filler before!
ROB: We offer unique opportunities!
TIM: I have a new purpose in life!
ROB: Alright, thanks again to White Elephant, and... Wayback Machine is next.
ANNOUNCER: We interrupt this program to whisk you to the KDHX departure gate where a pair of embarrassing-looking dudes are ready to take off!
